The Facilities
St. Joseph's Rift Valley Hospital is a Tier 4 hospital in Kenya that opened for services in late 2019. The hospital currently treats around, and sometimes over, 100 patients on a typical weekday—up to 1,000 patients each week. The hospital is open 24/7 for emergency care.
The 3-storey building complex hosts several hospital wings, including Men's and Women's wards and a full-service operating room for emergency and elective procedures.

Our School of Health Sciences sits mere meters from the hospital complex; some students live in dormitories within the building.
The Location
St. Joseph's Rift Valley Hospital is situated just a kilometer from the shores of Lake Elementita in Nakuru County. This area is a peaceful oasis in central Kenya, where flamingoes flock and vegetation abounds.
The hospital and nursing school sit just in between Gilgil and Nakuru along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway. Next to the buildings are St. Joseph's farm and dairy to provide patients and students with fresh, locally-grown seasonal fruits and vegetables prepared in the hospital kitchen.
Hospital-provided rides to and from public transportation stops on the highway are available to patients in need.
The Cost
We strive to keep services deeply affordable for the average Kenyan family. Our services and pharmacy prices are among the most affordable in Kenya. For example:

Our patient fee to see a clinician, specialist, etc. is just 100 Ksh—about $.60 USD in 2023 dollars.

An endoscopy costs 4,000 Ksh ($27 USD) and a colonoscopy at 5,000 Ksh ($34 USD). *The same procedures run from 15,200–20,000 Ksh at comparable Kenyan hospitals nearby.

Treatments and Services
St. Joseph's outpatient services range from general medical and maternal care to specialized cancer treatments. We have 70 inpatient beds. Daily inpatient costs start at 500 KsH daily (about $3.00 USD in 2024 dollars)—and that fee includes fresh, healthy meals prepared on-site.

We have already grown to become the major referral center for the Rift Valley region for certain procedures, including endoscopic examinations. In just the first 9 months of 2023, doctors at St. Joseph's performed over 1,800 endoscopy exams!
